In an interview with “First News” on current domestic developments, analyst Areg Kochinyan noted that Kocharyan has announced his intent to enter the active political field, which is just a matter of time. “As for his ‘political brand,’ I believe everyone understands well that Kocharyan has zero potential to gain legitimacy or attract a voter base, as his approval rating is in the negative. His name alone could damage any political circle he might align with.
However, this does not mean that Kocharyan cannot control a pseudo-opposition group through behind-the-scenes maneuvers. In my view, it is no coincidence that the formation of a tripartite alliance — between the PAP (Prosperous Armenia Party), the ARF (Dashnaktsutyun), and Vanetsyan’s ‘Homeland’ party — took place just before Kocharyan’s pre-trial detention decision.”
