In his recent interview with JamNEWS, Areg Kochinyan, President of the Research Center on Security Policy (RCSP), discussed Azerbaijan’s efforts to undermine the peace deal and signal its commitments to Russia. He pointed to Azerbaijan’s recent accusations that the Armenian Armed Forces shelled Azerbaijani positions near Nakhichevan.
Mr. Kochinyan argued that Azerbaijan is deliberately fabricating media narratives about Armenia’s control over the potential Zangezur corridor. Azerbaijani claims that “the route from Nakhichevan to Azerbaijan cannot be secured under Armenian authority due to ceasefire violations” are part of a broader strategy to postpone the peace treaty.
Mr. Kochinyan suggested that this delay is less about COP-29 and more connected to the upcoming U.S. presidential elections and Azerbaijan’s commitments to Russia.
