The next episode of the “Dilemma” podcast dedicated to security issues focuses on Armenia-Turkey relations, their main preconditions for normalization, the settlement of the Artsakh issue, the role of Turkey’s relations with the US, Russia, and Azerbaijan, as well as the impact of the 2023 earthquake and the results of recent elections in Turkey.
The guests of the program are Gurgen Simonyan, PhD in Political Science, and turkologist Hayk Gabrielyan. The conversation is led by Areg Kochinyan, head of the “Research Center on Security Policy.”
Gurgen Simonyan
“If the Republic of Armenia as a state doesn’t have a degree of threat potential by itself, then no one will talk to the RA. We need to realize this.”
Hayk Gabrielyan
“Erdogan has repeatedly expressed the thesis of ‘One nation, one state,’ according to which Azerbaijan’s pain is also Turkey’s pain, and its joy is Turkey’s joy. It turns out that any scale of victory by Azerbaijan or Aliyev is also Erdogan’s victory, and the same goes for defeat. That is, when Ilham Aliyev carries out strategic operations on the border of Armenia or Artsakh, he also puts Erdogan’s reputation at stake.”
Areg Kochinyan
“For this issue, Armenia needs to develop a long-term strategy. After all, is it possible for an independent, sovereign Republic of Armenia to exist in this region without normalizing relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan? In my opinion, it’s not possible.”
