The next episode of the security-focused “Dilemma” podcast addresses the issues of Lake Sevan, including changes in the lake’s ecosystem and biochemical composition over the last hundred years, the problem of biological wastewater treatment, as well as whether the water level of Sevan should be raised.
The program guests are Aram Gabrielyan, candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, expert, and Karapet Kazanchyan, expert on water resources and ecology. The conversation is hosted by Areg Kochinyan, head of the “Research Center on Security Policy.”
Aram Gabrielyan
“If we’re trying to fit into the ecosystem, our ecological niche, we need to raise Sevan to the level that nature wants it to be… That means Sevan’s level should be brought to 1920 meters.”
Aram Kazanchyan
“First of all, on political or national grounds, we need to clarify what Sevan means to us, how we want to use or conserve Sevan. When we get the answer to that question, we can arrange the plan in such a way that it becomes clear to which point we want to bring the lake.”
Areg Kochinyan
“I think that many problems facing Armenia, and not only those of a security nature, somehow revolve around these two phrases- good organization and decision-making.”
