The recently circulated “Western Azerbaijan” narrative by official Baku claims to advocate for “the dignified return of those displaced from Western Azerbaijan to their ancestral lands under peaceful and secure conditions.”
According to Areg Kochinyan, this rhetoric represents a significant escalation and resembles a new demand. He suggests that Yerevan could respond, should this issue surface on the negotiation agenda, by formulating a mirror demand: ensuring the return of Armenians to Artsakh, Baku, Sumgait, and other regions of Azerbaijan.
