Highlighting the initiation of Armenia’s accession process to the European Union, Areg Kochinyan, head of the Research Center on Security Policy, views the adoption of the relevant legislation as the potential beginning of Armenia’s disengagement from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
“We are sitting on the fence… In the current world order, Armenia cannot remain a member of the EAEU, CSTO, and CIS while simultaneously deepening its ties with the West without making a strategic choice,” stated Kochinyan.
The political scientist emphasized the importance of the continued presence and expansion of the EU monitoring mission as well as the implementation of reforms in the Armenian Armed Forces in close collaboration with international partners as key components for enhancing Armenia’s resilience and defense capabilities.
