A peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan can reshape the geopolitical situation in the South Caucasus, by diminishing Russia’s political and military influence in the region. It will also pave the way for a normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey, which in turn will fundamentally shift Armenia’s relationship with Russia.
“The real issue now is Azerbaijan’s official stance, which, judging by Aliyev’s recent statements, is quite problematic. We need to call attention to Azerbaijan’s disruptive actions. However, what is more important to me, is to urge Azerbaijan to be more constructive. Our efforts should be directed towards this goal rather than just proving a point.”
